What is PAS 24? How our bi-fold systems are manufactured to meet the highest security standard

Our bi-fold systems are engineered and manufactured to meet PAS 24 standards, providing enhanced security and compliance for modern building projects. We combine specialist industry expertise, precision manufacturing and high-quality materials to ensure security and reliable performance. Every system undergoes rigorous testing and quality control throughout the manufacturing process, giving customers confidence in the security and quality of our products.

When specifying a bi-fold door system, security and performance are just as important as appearance. Homeowners, systems houses, extruders and fabricators all expect smooth operation, durability, and thermal efficiency.

At Debar, every stage of the manufacturing process is designed to meet those expectations. Drawing on decades of industry experience, our engineers manufacture high-performance bi-fold door systems that are built to meet demanding standards, including PAS 24.

In our latest blog, we discuss what the PAS 24 standard is, how our manufacturing process meets this, and what it means for our customers not just in the UK, but around the world.

What is PAS 24?

Originally introduced in 1999 and last updated in 2022, PAS 24 is the recognised minimum UK security standard for doors and windows. It assesses how effectively a system can resist attempted forced entry through a series of mechanical and manual tests.

The standard is commonly required for new-build developments and projects that must comply with Approved Document Q of Building Regulations in England and Wales. For customers, PAS 24 compliance provides reassurance that a system has been independently tested for enhanced security performance. From 2004 – 2025, home invasions and burglaries have dropped significantly by 68%, due to the widespread adoption of the standard.

Why does PAS 24 matter?

Bi-fold doors feature large, glazing and wide openings, which means the strength and quality of the hardware is critical. Developed by a number of organisations, such as Association of Chief Police Officers, Association of Composite Door Manufacturers, BRE, British Woodworking Federation, a PAS 24-compliant system offers greater protection against forced entry.

The standard also demonstrates high-quality engineering, durability and overall system reliability. It gives homeowners, fabricators and developers confidence that the aluminium system has been tested to perform under pressure.

At Debar, every bi-fold system is designed to meet the PAS 24 standard, forming part of a wider commitment to producing secure, long-lasting and high-performing bi-fold systems.

Designed for confidence

Achieving PAS 24 standard starts at the design stage. Each of our bi-fold systems are carefully engineered to balance security, structural strength, and smooth operation. Our team analyses how every component works together within the complete system, from hinges and rollers through to five-point multi-locks.

By combining our bi-fold door hardware expertise with advanced CAD software and prototyping technology, we can refine systems before they reach production, helping to ensure consistency and long-term reliability.

Prioritising high-quality materials

The materials used throughout the manufacturing process play a key role in overall system performance. Our systems incorporate robust, high-grade materials including extruded aluminium, stainless steel fittings, sealed bearing rollers and self-lubricating bushes.

These components are selected for their strength, durability and ability to withstand regular long-term use. Protective finishes and thermal break technology also help us to improve our product’s weather resistance, corrosion protection and energy efficiency.

Precision manufacturing and testing

All our manufacturing is carried out in our Bradford facility, using advanced machinery, such as our high-capacity CNC suite and modern Haffner Saws, and carefully controlled processes.

Each component is produced to precise specifications before being assembled and tested to ensure smooth operation, alignment and reliability. Extensive in-house quality checks at every stage facilitate the structural integrity of each system before it reaches the customer.

Before bringing the system to market, we test every solution against PAS 24, covering two main areas: security and weather resistance. This ensures that the bi-fold cannot be easily broken into by intruders while also checking that the system can keep out the rain and cold.

This structured approach helps ensure every system delivers consistent performance in real-world conditions.

What does PAS 24 mean for our customers?

Choosing a PAS 24-compliant bi-fold system means investing in a product that has been engineered with security, quality and reliability at its core.

Systems houses, extruders and fabricators can be confident that our bi-fold solutions have been independently tested, manufactured using the highest-grade materials and designed to deliver long-term performance.

Although PAS 24 is a UK security standard, the level of testing and engineering required to achieve compliance benefits bi-fold systems used all around the world. Enhanced security, robust hardware design and rigorous performance testing are universal requirements, regardless of location.
